Why do you want to be a mentor?

I am passionate about Mentoring and its many benefits. I have found that having an external mentor for open, objective conversations and the sharing of wisdom from experience has been an invaluable resource along my journey. It is also about forging a plan for career progression to help meet your goals, but it is also to ensure that the sort of industry and company culture you want to be part of aligns with your values. To achieve clarity of purpose and get the work life balance right. Being able to have these conversations with empathetic, structured thinking coaches can help unlock the avenues to further success. The personal Mentoring Advisory Board is a brilliant idea, and I would be honored if we could work together.

I’ve had many roles in my long career, but at my core, I have always been a problem solver and opportunity hunter. I have been a marketing director at Telstra and Director in global creative, digital, media agencies. I’ve spent the past 12 years working with two management consulting firms, including a global director role leading a department worldwide in a Big 4 firm.

Most of my career changes were intentional, although I have experienced redundancy through organisational restructuring. I’ve learnt to navigate well within complex, political workplaces, honing my ability to thrive in these environments whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. These challenges taught me resilience and a better planning approach.

For career planning, I use a strategic framework and a design thinking system to map out options and potential next career moves based on your values, transferable skills, interests and ambitions.

Here is a quote that captures my philosophy on mentoring

“Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction.”
“A mentor provides wisdom and guidance (a brain to pick), offers understanding and support (an ear to listen), and encourages growth and progress (a push in the right direction). Through mentorship, individuals find clarity, confidence, and the motivation to succeed”
— John Crosby

Trained as a coach-style leader, I’ve led industry association training and mentoring programmes and have also been sought out by my colleagues and other professionals to mentor them, helping them to develop their personal brands, co-creating career strategies and steps to help them achieve their goals.

I am now living on Sydney’s northern beaches. We have three adult children and two quirky Italian water dogs. I enjoy reading, golf (most of the time), exploring the local beaches and bush walks, collecting wine, exploring Sydney’s fine food and cooking for family and friends
