Why do you want to be a mentor?

I want to be a mentor because I believe in the power of sharing the knowledge and experience. Having had a diverse career, with both remarkable successes and daunting failures, and moments where I’ve felt utterly out of my depth, I understand the value of guidance and support. Also, midway through my own journey, I was fortunate to have been mentored, an experience that transformed my life in terms of direction, perspective, and priorities. If I can pay forward the profound impact that mentorship had on me, guiding others through their challenges and opportunities, it would be incredibly fulfilling.

My career experience has been incredibly diverse, marked by many pivot points and unconventional trajectories. Starting life as a lawyer in the UK, I moved to Australia in 2001 and worked in a Government Affairs role for a large industry association.

In 2007, I landed the position of Chief Privacy Officer with Acxiom and moved to New York, for four years – a very exciting time! My next career step took place in in 2011 when, despite being young and relatively inexperienced, I was appointed CEO of the Australian Data Driven Marketing Association, This move challenged me to embrace discomfort and uncertainty, a theme that has recurred throughout my career.

Subsequently I transitioned to Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and Chief Customer Officer with IBM, with a focus on the intersection between marketing and technology.

During my career I’ve been privileged to serve on many Boards, including six years with challenger telco Amaysim, I now work as a Future Skills Mentor with RMIT University, specialising in artificial intelligence and marketing.

I also run a brewery with my husband in North Queensland, so my career theme of ‘unconventional’ continues!
