Jacob worked for 20 years as a manager with Unilever, in HR, business development, marketing and innovation, first in the UK and Europe, then for 13 years in Asia-Pacific (Japan and ANZ).

"Over the last 40 years I have learned almost everything I retain and value from the people, ordinary and exceptional, that I've encountered on the way. The shared journey is so much richer than flying solo."

Why do you want to be a mentor?

Personal and professional development is hard to do alone. We need a human mirror to look at ourselves in. Being mentored is like looking into a filtering mirror – the mentoree sees their own strengths and potential reflected back at them through the experiences lived by the Mentor, and the Mentor’s worldview. This can bring something new, and hopefully useful.

Jacob worked for 20 years as a manager with Unilever, in HR, business development, marketing and innovation, first in the UK and Europe, then for 13 years in Asia-Pacific (Japan and ANZ).

Unilever was, and still is, a humane, people-focused organisation with strong ethical principles. Jacob considers himself lucky to have learned business and management in that environment. After being appointed Foods and Beverages Marketing Manager in Japan and Divisional Marketing and Innovation Director for ANZ he changed course and joined the cultural sector as CEO of Art Exhibitions Australia, Sydney, leading a fundamental review of their strategy as exhibition organizer for the Australian national museums. On returning to Europe Jacob became international business development advisor for the French National Museums organization, based in Paris where he has lived for 20 years.

Fascinated by the challenges of leading change Jacob embarked in 2003 on a specialist masters programme at Oxford Said Business School and HEC Paris. Since 2005 he has worked as a change consultant, leadership coach and university lecturer specializing in transformation strategies for integrating sustainability into business models and organisations.

In 2008 Jacob co-founded and still leads change strategy consultancy New Angles, with a mission to reinvent success and ‘change business for good’. New Angles became one of the first B Corps in France, certified in 2015.

Jacob has delivered Executive Education and Masters programmes at HEC Paris, Geneva University’s Economics faculty and three other European business schools. He currently teaches a Masters programme at Sciences-Po Paris on How to Mainstream Sustainability in Business.
